F4GI is a US 501(c)(3) that builds the payments and enrollment infrastructure for guaranteed income programmes and runs them on behalf of communities. Its flagship Compton Pledge sent $9.3 million in recurring unconditional cash ($300-$600/month for two years) to 800 low-income Compton families, funded philanthropically rather than from the city budget, and it now operates a portfolio of further pilots.

Social identity

Programme-specific eligibility (low income, residency, and for some pilots formerly incarcerated status or child-welfare involvement), with randomized or lottery selection among eligible applicants. F4GI runs its own enrollment and identity-verification portal and deliberately includes undocumented residents, who are excluded from most public benefits.

Social mining

Recurring monthly or bi-monthly unconditional payments through F4GI's own payments portal (portal.f4gi.org), using prepaid debit cards, direct deposit and other rails so that recipients without bank accounts can be paid.

Token economics

Philanthropic grants and private donors - named funders include the Heising-Simons Foundation, Just Impact Advisors, Spring Point Partners and the Wellspring Philanthropic Fund. Some individual pilots are co-delivered with municipal partners.

Governance

501(c)(3) public charity with an executive director and research lead; publishes implementation reports and pilot-level research.

F4GI launched August 2020. The Compton Pledge completed its two-year run and final payments have been sent; a policy-design report was published July 2025. F4GI currently lists active pilots including the Chicago Future Fund, Long Beach Pledge, Housing Pledge, Truth and Reconciliation, Community Love Fund, Pathway to Income Equity (Sonoma County), GROW (Philadelphia) and Mothers Rising.

- The Compton Pledge is often mistaken for a city programme: it was announced with the mayor's backing but the cash came from philanthropy, not the Compton city budget.
- Several current pilots are run in partnership with local governments (Philadelphia, Long Beach, Sonoma County), so funding for those specific pilots may be mixed - treat the organisation as philanthropic and individual pilots case by case.
- F4GI's distinctive contribution is payments infrastructure that reaches unbanked and undocumented recipients.
